  • We were happy to unveil the new look for the Fiesta Bowl site this week.

It is the product of a few slices of redPear working in concert with the great creative minds at the Fiesta Bowl, and we think it turned out pretty great.

Check it out, and be sure to follow some of their social accounts to stay up to date on all the exciting events they have planned this Fall.

  • Our friend Jamie (@maventheavenger) posted a fun link to what life would be like without the internet.

It's not entirely safe for work, but we found one thing that redPear would definitely be doing if the Internet went away.

    No Internet?!?! - October 26, 2009 9:38 pm UTC

  • TEMPE, Arizona (November 2, 2009) – Local web services and software company redPear is proud to announce the acquisition of OpenRain, a Mesa-based web services and software firm known for their Ruby on Rails and Android development. As part of the acquisition, former OpenRain CTO Marc Chung will be joining the redPear team in his new role as the company’s Chief Technology Officer, bringing his ingenuity and years of experience building world class solutions.

Brandon Willey, CEO of redPear, expressed his excitement about this partnership earlier today, “We consider this a great opportunity to merge the resources of redPear and OpenRain to develop a truly unique experience in the world of website design and custom software. Phoenix has continued to prove itself as an exciting ground for start-ups and new ideas. We believe this acquisition to play a vital role in what Phoenix has to offer moving forward, merging experience and knowledge in a dynamic fashion.”

Regarding the acquisition and the opportunities ahead, Chung stated, “I have always enjoyed being on a team of crazy-smart, energetic, like-minded individuals. This is the perfect place for that. I’ve always been a fan of redPear and I’m excited by the opportunity to support and grow their vision.”

As part of the acquisition, redPear will continue servicing all existing clients of OpenRain and honoring all previous agreements. All previous support of OpenRain’s projects and contracts, including training, will also continue. “Clients will see a seamless transition in quality, services and end product. We are not seeking to revamp what has been done, but to expand the experience for all involved,” according to Willey.

redPear, based out of Tempe, Arizona, was founded in 2006. The company specializes in website creation, iPhone applications and custom web-based software. Their latest creation, Vyllij, is a web-based relationship management application.

  • This past Tuesday night was a great Ignite event at the Tempe Center for the arts.

There were several rad presentations. The videos aren't posted yet, but the Flickr stream is starting to pick up...

and we thought we'd share this pic of two members of team redPear who had the honor of presenting.

  • Theodore Phoenix?

    Not really.

Tedx Phoenix is our local extension of the TED events. If you don't know about TED, you should check out the "TED talks" videos -  we have a few we can recommend.

    <!--more-->

This past Friday night, we got our first ever TEDxPhoenix event. It was at the Mesa Arts Center and featured some great presenters and performers.

All the volunteers who put it together did a fabulous job, but we really want to tip our collective hat to our own Tomas Carrillo who outdid himself in coordinating volunteers, speakers, sponsors, the venue, and even introduced all the speakers on stage that night. Nice work, brother.

We'll add some photos once we get permission, but in the mean time, you can see the Flickr stream here.

  • As Geek Week 2009 is reaching fever-pitch, you have an increased chance of running into members of team redPear in the wild.

Wednesday night (tonight), catch our developers supporting Drew as he presents at Developer Ignite. There are some great minds presenting. If you are into programming/code, this event is right up your alley.

    <!--more-->

Thursday, a few of us will be at the Arizona Entrepreneurship Conference, engaging with some awesome people. It's sold out, but you can crash Social Media Club Phoenix afterwards..

Friday, we're splitting up between two events. A few of us will be at WordCamp Phoenix - a day-long conference focusing on WordPress (a CMS and blogging platform of which we are quite fond). The rest of us will be at Geek 'n' Eat 0x10, a lunch hour hosted by our own Marc Chung dedicated to two things: 1) Geeking. 2) Eating. It's pretty straightforward.

(by the way, if you didn't know that 0x10 means 16, that doesn't mean you can't go to Geek 'n' Eat... you just may need this...)

Saturday and Sunday is probably the biggest interactive media event in town. PodCampAz is an "unconference" with a crazy speaker list and awesome hallway and accidental connections and conversations. Brent and his army of volunteers have been working on this for months. And we were proud to be able to build the new "unregistration" and session voting engine.

There's a ton going on right now, we're excited to experience it with you guys :)

  • Happy New Year to all our friends.

We have a pair of Fiesta Bowl tickets we'd like to give away. But instead of a random hashtag drawing, we're going to trade them to the first person who brings in a decent bottle of red. Brandon prefers Pinot Noir and Krystofer prefers Old Vine Zinfandel. :)

Hit us up on twitter so we know you're coming.
And follow the #bottleofredPear hashtag to make sure they're still available.

    Good luck!

  • UPDATE - the ticket contest is now closed. thanks to ALL our entrants!

    Hey friends,

We at redPear love Ignite, and Ignite Phoenix 6 is just days away!

Tickets sold out in about 30 minutes, so we know there are some well-intentioned people who didn't get any. That's why we set aside 2 pairs of tickets to be won earned by industrious, hungry folks with cameraphones.

    The contest:

To enter the contest, you must tweet a photo (using a service like yfrog, twitpic, etc). If you don't have twitter, post your photo to the Ignite Facebook wall.*

To be eligible for the contest, the photo must...

    • be a picture of the entrant eating a pear.
    • be posted/tweeted between 1:00PM MST on 3/26/10 and 11:59PM MST on 3/28/10
    • have a tweet/message/caption which mentions redPear and ignitephx. (preferably using the conventions @redPear and #ignitephx)

The FIRST person to post a photo of themselves eating a red pear will win one pair of tickets.

All of the remaining entrants will be entered in a better-than-random™ drawing on Monday morning to determine the winner of the second pair.

So hit the produce store, get your pic on, and good luck!

    ----- ----- -----

Employees of redPear should probably steer clear of this particular contest... unless you just like to take pictures of yourself eating fruit.

The official twitter/facebook timestamps will be used to determine entry times. We're not responsible for them, or for how third-party apps interface with them.

Any and all rules are subject to change at the whim of redPear, barometric pressure, or whatever. But we plan on sticking to the script.

    * - If you don't have twitter or facebook, simply print and mail the photograph to our processing department with an accompanying telegram.

  • With all the growth redPear has experienced lately, we've needed to quickly expand our customer service capabilities.

Outsourcing can be very cost-effective, but we're passionate about keeping things local.

That's why we've partnered with the Arizona Department of Corrections inmate labor program to to provide quality customer service to our clients without breaking the bank.

Don't worry, we'd never give your personal or business information to a violent offender; we're working only with men and women serving time for things like confidence scams, credit card fraud, forgery, etc.

We're excited about this new venture and hope you are too.

  • This week we welcome three new members of the redPear team.

Sean Mellor and Lauren Tassiello will be developing business and agency relationships and Tim Trainor will be working with our Vyllij community as well as providing some internal support.

We're excited to have them around as they each have gifts and strengths that can make redPear awesome. We'll get them up on the site and introduced to y'all in the coming days.

Of course this means it's getting rather crowded, so please hit us up on Twitter if you're thinking of coworking. :)

    It's getting crowded - May 26, 2010 3:49 pm UTC

  • Greetings,

As many of you know I am Tim Trainor and one of the newest additions to redPear! What am I going to be doing? I am so glad you asked! My job is two fold. Part of my role will be working with the infamous Brandon Willey (Perhaps you have heard of him) making his life less insane. I am told this is possible......I will give it my all! :) The other part of my role will be working with the amazingly talented Jana Knapp exploring and exploiting all of the beauty that Vyllij holds. We already have some good stuff cookin'!! So if you smell something awesome coming from the pinot room, thats just Jana and I making things happen!

    A little about me......

Two things in life that I cherish are simply music and people. So feel free to give me itunes cards or buy me a round of any liquid of your choice! I wont mind. :)

    Looking forward to the future!

  • I'm Lauren Tassiello and I'm the go-to-gal for our relationships with agencies. I work with marketing and advertising agencies in town to help them deliver the best web technology for their clients. You'll also see me having my hand in a new a fun event for Phoenix, AgencyCamp. On a seperate yet related note, you can find me around town getting grub at local restaurants, practicing yoga, and traveling. I'm a lover of development and recently started creating a personal and professional development program that empowers young people, something of which I am very excited for! = )

  • This weekend ABC 15 published a piece comparing popular smart phone platforms and they asked redPear CTO Marc Chung for his Android endorsement.

We have people on all three platforms here at our Tempe web development shop, but Marc is among those of us with a soft spot for Android.
    Check out his thoughts here.

  • [From the desk of Isaiah Mustafa aka the Old Spice guy]

Hello ladies.. and gentlemen friends of the esteemed and prestigious office of redPear.

Over the last week, the tall accomplished developers and designers at redPear have been polishing their monocle smiles while building out applications for start ups and non-profits with nothing but their bare-hands.

    Bare-hands.

    For non-profits.

Important non-profits that fight for World Peace (c).

    Did I mention bare-hands?

I realize that you're probably filled with excitement as you're reading this because let's be honest, how else would my voice --- my sweet, warm, deep and yet glistening voice --- running through your head manifest itself?

One moment, I need to finish up my bench press.

I'm now back. Where was I? Oh yes, that's right..

I shall now attempt to enumerate the amazing applications that we've launched recently.

Onlisted (www.onlisted.com) is an online services marketplace where users around the country can create and bid on each others services, in real time.  It's like eBay, but diamonds.

The First Things First Regional Scholarships (www.azftfscholarships.org) regional portal allows care providers from around Arizona to electronically coordinate and track billing information. Important billing information. It also plays a sweet, sweet lullaby during the first five days of the month. I'm just kidding, that beautiful sound you're hearing is the sound of a mallet against my ab-xylophone.

Actually I'm not playing my ab-xylophone.

    Or am I?

I believe these applications will make the world a better place, and I hope you enjoy using them as much as our ridiculously good-looking team has enjoyed creating them!

    Swan dive.
