Our friend Jamie (@maventheavenger) posted a fun link to what life would be like without the internet.
It's not entirely safe for work, but we found one thing that redPear would definitely be doing if the Internet went away.
No Internet?!?! - October 26, 2009 9:38 pm UTC
TEMPE, Arizona (November 2, 2009) – Local web services and software company redPear is proud to announce the acquisition of OpenRain, a Mesa-based web services and software firm known for their Ruby on Rails and Android development. As part of the acquisition, former OpenRain CTO Marc Chung will be joining the redPear team in his new role as the company’s Chief Technology Officer, bringing his ingenuity and years of experience building world class solutions.
Brandon Willey, CEO of redPear, expressed his excitement about this partnership earlier today, “We consider this a great opportunity to merge the resources of redPear and OpenRain to develop a truly unique experience in the world of website design and custom software. Phoenix has continued to prove itself as an exciting ground for start-ups and new ideas. We believe this acquisition to play a vital role in what Phoenix has to offer moving forward, merging experience and knowledge in a dynamic fashion.”
Regarding the acquisition and the opportunities ahead, Chung stated, “I have always enjoyed being on a team of crazy-smart, energetic, like-minded individuals. This is the perfect place for that. I’ve always been a fan of redPear and I’m excited by the opportunity to support and grow their vision.”
As part of the acquisition, redPear will continue servicing all existing clients of OpenRain and honoring all previous agreements. All previous support of OpenRain’s projects and contracts, including training, will also continue. “Clients will see a seamless transition in quality, services and end product. We are not seeking to revamp what has been done, but to expand the experience for all involved,” according to Willey.
redPear, based out of Tempe, Arizona, was founded in 2006. The company specializes in website creation, iPhone applications and custom web-based software. Their latest creation, Vyllij, is a web-based relationship management application.

This past Tuesday night was a great Ignite event at the Tempe Center for the arts.
There were several rad presentations. The videos aren't posted yet, but the Flickr stream is starting to pick up...
and we thought we'd share this pic of two members of team redPear who had the honor of presenting.

Theodore Phoenix?
Not really.
Tedx Phoenix is our local extension of the TED events. If you don't know about TED, you should check out the "TED talks" videos - we have a few we can recommend.

This past Friday night, we got our first ever TEDxPhoenix event. It was at the Mesa Arts Center and featured some great presenters and performers.
All the volunteers who put it together did a fabulous job, but we really want to tip our collective hat to our own Tomas Carrillo who outdid himself in coordinating volunteers, speakers, sponsors, the venue, and even introduced all the speakers on stage that night. Nice work, brother.
We'll add some photos once we get permission, but in the mean time, you can see the Flickr stream here.

As Geek Week 2009 is reaching fever-pitch, you have an increased chance of running into members of team redPear in the wild.
Wednesday night (tonight), catch our developers supporting Drew as he presents at Developer Ignite. There are some great minds presenting. If you are into programming/code, this event is right up your alley.

Thursday, a few of us will be at the Arizona Entrepreneurship Conference, engaging with some awesome people. It's sold out, but you can crash Social Media Club Phoenix afterwards..
Friday, we're splitting up between two events. A few of us will be at WordCamp Phoenix - a day-long conference focusing on WordPress (a CMS and blogging platform of which we are quite fond). The rest of us will be at Geek 'n' Eat 0x10, a lunch hour hosted by our own Marc Chung dedicated to two things: 1) Geeking. 2) Eating. It's pretty straightforward.
(by the way, if you didn't know that 0x10 means 16, that doesn't mean you can't go to Geek 'n' Eat... you just may need this...)
Saturday and Sunday is probably the biggest interactive media event in town. PodCampAz is an "unconference" with a crazy speaker list and awesome hallway and accidental connections and conversations. Brent and his army of volunteers have been working on this for months. And we were proud to be able to build the new "unregistration" and session voting engine.
There's a ton going on right now, we're excited to experience it with you guys :)

And I just want to say that I'm thankful to be able to work with such a great team of people, grateful to partner with clients who trust us, and appreciative of the rest of the Phoenix web-developer community whom support and challenge one another.
Have a restful holiday, and THANKS!

Happy New Year to all our friends.
We have a pair of Fiesta Bowl tickets we'd like to give away. But instead of a random hashtag drawing, we're going to trade them to the first person who brings in a decent bottle of red. Brandon prefers Pinot Noir and Krystofer prefers Old Vine Zinfandel. :)
Hit us up on twitter so we know you're coming.
And follow the #bottleofredPear hashtag to make sure they're still available.
Good luck!

UPDATE - the ticket contest is now closed. thanks to ALL our entrants!
Hey friends,
We at redPear love Ignite, and Ignite Phoenix 6 is just days away!
Tickets sold out in about 30 minutes, so we know there are some well-intentioned people who didn't get any. That's why we set aside 2 pairs of tickets to be won earned by industrious, hungry folks with cameraphones.
The contest:
To enter the contest, you must tweet a photo (using a service like yfrog, twitpic, etc). If you don't have twitter, post your photo to the Ignite Facebook wall.*
To be eligible for the contest, the photo must...
The FIRST person to post a photo of themselves eating a red pear will win one pair of tickets.
All of the remaining entrants will be entered in a better-than-random™ drawing on Monday morning to determine the winner of the second pair.
So hit the produce store, get your pic on, and good luck!
----- ----- -----
Employees of redPear should probably steer clear of this particular contest... unless you just like to take pictures of yourself eating fruit.
The official twitter/facebook timestamps will be used to determine entry times. We're not responsible for them, or for how third-party apps interface with them.
Any and all rules are subject to change at the whim of redPear, barometric pressure, or whatever. But we plan on sticking to the script.
* - If you don't have twitter or facebook, simply print and mail the photograph to our processing department with an accompanying telegram.
